Fun with Public Art: Dale Chihuly Takes Over the De Young Museum

New, 4 comments

BRACE. Seattle glass artist/ personality/ pirate Dale Chihuly will install the phallic object pictured here, also known as Saffron Neon Tower, on the east side of the De Young Museum as part of the artist's show, Chihuly at the De Young, which will run from mid-June 'till the end of September; expect a whole mess of drawings, chandeliers, and glass works blown by the artist's army of gaffers. Other evidence of Chihuly's world-wide colonization of public space (see also: Christo) includes Yellow Sun, an orb, fifteen feet in diameter, that will sit in the Legion of Honor's main courtyard, as well as a ginormous gardem of Millefiore glass. Um, vote?
