Greener Than Thou is our report on San Francisco’s obsession with all things green, calling bullshit in the poseurs and lavishing praise on those who have secured their place in environmental paradise. Let it mellow longer than most? Holla!
Alcatraz is going green and we find it damn well irritating. After several psychoanalytic sessions' worth of rumination on the subject, we've determined that it's a simple matter of, well, NIMBYism. We cop to it, OK? We simply don't want to see educational signage detailing "the greening of Alcatraz," as if "greening" was a verb in 1860. Hell, as if it was a verb two years ago! Yeah, now that we think about it, our beef lies with the spin: Organic coffee and recycled paper at the concession kiosk at Fisherman's Wharf, pastries using "all natural" ingredients. Though promised in 2006, an air, wind, and diesel powered ferry will begin hauling us all out to the island in the fall, allegedly. Cool. Is there psychological condition associated with green burnout? Greened out? Yes, yes indeed. This post confirms it: we are officially greened out.
