Greener Than Thou: Why Stop at 2012?

Supe Ross Mirkarimi has garnered preliminary approval for a plan that renders Gavin's "green by 2012" song-and-dance into a shadow of its former self. Up with the ante! Mirkarimi plans to best Gav's goal of a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse emissions below 1990 levels by 2012, further reducing emissions to 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2017, 40 percent by 2025, and 80 percent by 2050. Energy-efficient building practices and use, emissions regulations— his plan of action is standard fare, though it does require that city agencies submit annual environmental plans, and that violations be reported to the city. An 80 percent reduction by 2050: Ambitious, or on target? [SJ Merc]
