Yerba Buena Adds to Its Repertoire With MoPaD

New, 3 comments

The Yerba Buena arts district may soon add another museum to the nabe as the recently re-branded Museum of Performance and Design (until recently, known as the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum) eyes a soon-to-be-razed, two-story building on the corner of Third and Folsom Streets. A new identity calls for a new building, and MoPaD— the museum, not the motorbike— is currently in negotiations with the developer to buy the land in order to build its H.Q. there. The new museum will house the institution's extensive collection of performance paraphenialia, and will stand as the 23rd cultural institution in the district (which is bounded geographically by Second and Fifth Streets and Market and Harrison Streets). If all goes according to plan, Yerba Buena will have its newest museum in 2012.
