That's how hard we rolled our eyes upon stumbling over this one: While Pelosi and Co. are off sweating the crucial issues, militantly conservative Minnesota Representative Michelle Bachman has gone pro-choice over light bulbs; she recently introduced the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act to stop the movement to phase out incandescent bulbs. Her speech writers, no doubt in direct consultation with the White House, have toiled hard over this one: "This is an issue of science over fads and fashions," Bachman told an interviewer, and called any human connection to global warming "voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax." She continued: "Fluorescent bulbs are more polluting because of their mercury content. We are working on a light bulb bill. If the Democrats can hose up a light bulb, don't trust them with the country." [Treehugger]
