Coming soon to a ballot near you: Propositions 98 & 99. 98 prevents the use of eminent domain for purposes of transferring private property to another private party... and it phases out rent control in SF; 99 prohibits The Man from using eminent domain to take a single-family homes (including condos). There's a catch, though, as 99 is a bit trickier—it trumps 98 as long as it receives more votes, even if both propositions pass. Confused yet? You've got just over two months to study up. [SF Gate]
