Squatters Play Landlord in Foreclosed Homes

The subprime mortgage crisis, inspirational force for predators of all walks. To wit: a new trend has popped up in Sacramento, and it's so absurd that we can't imagine that it's not going down in SF, too. Squatters, or as Sacramento Land(ing) calls them, "Squatlords," are colonizing (read: breaking and entering) bank-owned homes, and then advertising them as rental units. And it's working, too. Some renters have remained completely unaware that they've been scammed to hell and back— until the bank shows up to reclaim the place, that is. Haight gutter punks, mobilize.
