While we're in the neighborhood ... The U.S. Navy is conducting a full-on environmental sweep at Hunter's Point, boring wells into the area's most contaminated— or rather, radioactive— areas in order to determine whether the ground should be replaced or paved over before being pawned off to Lennar Corp. the city. Soil, gravel, or asphalt "caps" (such as the ones that lie beneath all of those million-billion-dollar developments along Berry Street) are prone to cracking beneath earthquakes. Safety first, folks.
