Maybe Santa Clara has a fighting chance after all: City funding shortfalls are jeopardizing a group of transportation initiatives slated for the city's southeast corner— including the Candlestick Point/ Hunters Point shipyard where San Francisco's 49'ers stadium could someday live (along with the inhabitants of proposed housing developments in the area). Aside from the transit centers planned for that area, the web of a proposal calls for the augmentation of the Bayshore Caltrain, the rebuilding of Harvey Way, extension of the Muni T-Third line, and Geneva Avenue; a rapid-transit bus line could also run along Geneva. Three cities (Brisbane, Daly City, and San Francisco), two counties (San Francisco and San Mateo) and a dozen transportation and development agencies are involved in the planning process. 'Nuff said right there. Funding or no funding, with that many government officials on board, we might as well consider this project stalled to begin with.
