Chinatown YMCA Approved

Plans for the Chinatown YMCA have been unanimously approved by the SF Planning Commission, thus allowing the 90-year-old mainstay to catch up with the times (and safety codes). The decision was a no-brainer for the commission, given the institution's historical importance in the nabe and community. No word yet on the design or massive logo set to mar grace the exterior of the building— commissioner Kathrin Moore initially deemed the architecture in need of "fine tuning" and the logo as "unnecessary." Well then. [Asian Week]
