Economy's (Probably) Not to Blame for This Closing

Itzhak Volansky, owner of self-described "dirty, poorly-lit, place for Books" McDonald's Bookshop near Market and 5th, says the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation wants him out so they can redevelop the entire block. He does cop to also owing them $10,000 to $12,000 in rent, though the TNDC says he actually owes way more. They also say Volansky's eviction has nothing to do with their alleged designs on redevelopment— surely even a grody bookshop in the TL helps more than it hurts? So what'll Volansky do with his newfound free time? Probably compose more songs like "Every Cake You Bake, I'll Be Watching You." [The Snitch]
