Storefronting is Curbed's regular look at the changing retail scene, with an emphasis on how it impacts neighborhoods. Opening a store? See a store that's opening? Keep us posted.
Design nerds and bargain hunters rejoice. CITIZEN:citizen, "the curator, manufacturer and brand that is at the center of the changing world of design and art," have opened a pop-up retail shop at 2226 Bush St. just in time for the holidays -- and it's probably the nicest cardboard showroom you'll ever see. The pop-up made its official debut last Friday with a carefully curated selection of contemporary and luxury design brands including Jimmyjane, Areaware, Chronicle Books, Staach, and New Leaf Clothing, among others. And yes, true to its name, Storeroom's products are sold at storeroom prices — that's 30%-50% below retail. The catch: they're only open for four weeks for your economy-stimulating pleasure.
