Wall Street Ripple: Hotel on Hold

The condos, the commercial spaces and now the hospitality industry. More than three years after it was approved, the hotel at AT&T Park is now officially on hold for at least another three. Four other hotels have been delayed around the city as of late, but their no-show seems not to strike as deep into the community as the one slated for 144 King. In happier times, the 11-story hotel-bar-restaurant complex was seen as a necessary step in creating a truly fleshed-out community around the park, fitting well with the area and creating some jobs to boot. Said one ballpark exec, "If you’re trying to create a new neighborhood, and it’s a neighborhood where people come for entertainment, then you’d like to have all the things that people might like to visit, including a hotel." Wow, this guy sounds even more sarcastic than us -- or maybe that's just the Friday cynicism talking.
