A New Commission, a New Historic Power Struggle

New, 4 comments

As if there wasn't enough red tape already, the city has somehow found it in its budget to add a new commission to the fray. The Historic Preservation Commission is likely to take power away from the Planning Commission and cut into the say of the Landmark Preservation Advisory Board, all at the cost of seven A-list salaries. While Peskin wants to give them broad legislative powers, with their decisions appealable only to the Board of Supes themselves, while Newsom is doing his best to cut them back, making the commission more advisory than political. So, who's on this list of to-be nabe-makers? Some architects, designers, current landmarks board members -- and our old friend, former planning commish and foe to many a city dweller and poster printer, Sue Lee! Boy, this one could get ugly.
