Valencia Makeover Update: Coming Soon(ish)

The final plans for Valencia Street's $6.1 million ped-friendly makeover project are rolling in through the end of December -- and luckily for Mission cyclists, this is one public work that won't be nixed in Gavin's Great Budget Cuts. Those millions have been allocated by the Great Streets Program, meaning federal grant dollars, not city green. Let's just hope they break ground before the feds ask for their money back, too. Wider sidewalks, new trees, more bike racks and lighting, and five new loading zones (to replace the nixed median) are on track to be on the ground between 15th and 19th streets by summer 2010.
