New High-Tech Parking Will Charge More and Save You Money

New, 3 comments

In need of quick cash flow, Muni and the Port of San Francisco are looking to squeeze a little more from the parking sector: both will replace many individual parking meters with multispace stations next spring, upping rates for special events and in popular areas that draw car-driving crowds. The first nabes to see new pay stations will be downtown, the Mission, Fisherman's Wharf, the Fillmore and the Marina. But parking will actually become cheaper on less in-demand streets, as well. This, all in a quest for a city-wide parking space "sweet spot," in which 10 to 35 percent of parking is free at any given time. [SF Examiner]
