Last we checked, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency had put out a personals ad for a savvy, well-moneyed developer to help them make a residential high-rise baby at Block 8. Seems things are moving along quite swimmingly; after having recently released a draft proposal, they're now meeting with five major developers who are vying for the right— nay, the privilege— of building the tower. Our demure redevelopment agency choice of suitors: Avant Housing, Intracorp San Francisco, the Emerald Fund, AvalonBay and Related Cos. And here we were thinking that something or other involving a "crunch" or "crisis" might actually put a stop to things like this! Seems love conquers all, "despite a devastating economic downturn that has depressed the value of the site and precluded some major builders from taking on the 597-unit project." It should be noted that the last developer listed, Related, has been struggling for a while to get LA's Grand Avenue off the ground. Godspeed, builders.
