Uppers and Downers: Feds' Marijuana Stats Hazy

New, 5 comments

Does San Francisco truly have more medical marijuana dispensaries than Starbucks outlets? That's what the feds would like you to believe -- but it's not true. (Not yet, at least!) The Office of National Drug Control Policy says SF is home to 98 weedy dens of sin, and only 71 bastions of overpriced caffeine and semi-public toilets, and their intern had a lot of fun mashing up this non-clickable Google map to illustrate the evils, which are curiously centered on high-price Nob Hill. Unfortunately, only two dozen pot spots in the city are registered with the Department of Health. The Office says it's tough to get precise numbers on "the illegal drug business."
