Greener Than Thou: LEED Screws Redevelopments?

New, 1 comment

Redevelopment may be good for the city and the environment -- increasing density, occupant loads and what-not -- but it's apparently not good enough. So says San Francisco's green building ordinance, which slaps extra restrictions on redeveloped new construction: an extra 10 points to start, plus an extra 10 if the demolished building was not "an historical resource." There are a couple loopholes, but they're pretty small. Even if you prove your new development will conserve land and better promote quality of life, walkability and transport efficiency, you're still subject to a penalty. [The Green Attorney]
