SB 375: Big, Not So Big Things Coming

"Planebrity" (really?) Bill Fulton puts on his professorial reading glasses and explains the anti-sprawl bill law. As he wrote previously, the legislation takes ambitious steps toward more sustainable communities, but isn't quite as revolutionary as advertised: "SB 375 talks tough ... but the bill does not alter the current regional planning structure, which delegates decision-making authority to local officials." Still, this part sounds big: If a project meets a laundry list of requirements, including being 50 percent residential and a half-mile from transit, it can skip environmental review. No EIR? No. Way.
