A Survey in Steel

If you checked out the California Academy of Sciences last weekend, you might have noticed a large, squiggly sculpture hanging in the west portico. Maya Lin was the artist/architect responsible for the 30-by-60-foot piece, which maps out the hills and valleys of San Francisco on a Cartesian grid: "To get it to feel right, it's five times exaggerated above the water level and 10 times below."
