Greener Than Thou: God Goes Green at Grace Cathedral

New, 5 comments

Greener Than Thou is our report on San Francisco’s obsession with all things green, calling bullshit in the poseurs and lavishing praise on those who have secured their place in environmental paradise. Let it mellow longer than most? Holler!

While green-minded residents are jostling one another at the starting line for the $4-5,000 San Francisco's Public Utilities Commission will grant some homeowners as a part of a $3 million residential solar panel program based on a similar effort in Berkeley, the Rev. Sally Bingham, environment chair of the diocese of California, has announced that Grace Cathedral may receive a similar $10,000 grant. While we wholeheartedly support the city's efforts as such, why does this nevertheless feel so over-the-top to us? Isn't it sacreligious to tear the roof off of a church? Guess not. Nothing comes between God and the green. (Heh.)
