What's in a name? That's the question being asked by Brothers for Change, a Western Division organization of African American Men looking to swap out the name of six blocks on Eddy Street to Marcus Garvey Way. This would be the biggest street change since Army Street became Cesar Chavez in 1995. The group hopes that that naming the street after the historical figure may help curb violence and encourage a resurgence of the community Opponents say the gesture is meaningless, expensive, and confusing; Cesar Chavez, Marcus Garvey— hey, blame it on U.S. History.
· Group wants to rename part of Eddy Street [SF Gate]
PS: Preemptive strike on the Punctuation Police— the slashes above are a code error, not an editorial one. We're working on it, OK? Love, Curbed SF
