Storefronting: Marina District's Metallic New Apple Store

Storefronting is Curbed's regular look at the changing retail scene, with an emphasis on how it impacts neighborhoods. Got a tip for Storefronting? Drop a line.

We're looking live inside 2125 Chestnut Street in the Marina, the former home of a Walgreens—and the future home of the neighborhood's very own Apple Store. Oh. Yes. As reported by blog ifoAppleStore, demolition on the old space finished a few months back, and workers are now cranking away in hopes of opening by year-end. This place—a stately 40'x95'—obviously isn't nearly the size of Apple's flagship store on Stockton, but even given the reduced size, they're going to have to hustle here.

Permits are good through mid-December at this point. Wishful thinking, perhaps?

Here's the store in the context of its block on Chestnut Street. To the store's right is the Marina Theater, which is now occupied in part by Walgreens. There's been talk of a retail makeover of the remaining space in the theater, and on recent inspection by Curbed operatives, it does indeed appear there's work going on. Anyone know more?
