From DWR: one bedroom, one bath, outdoor space, impeccable design, under 50K
Hey, remember: it's that month again. When architects, design geeks and sustainable panelists converge on San Francisco. It's called September and it used to be just about getting the kids back to school. but we don't have children in San Francisco. This weekend:
Dwell on Design: Dwell Magazine's big think conference and exhibition about design and community and what they mean to the concept of sustainability. This year there's a village (Pop-up, not Potemkin) Dwell Outdoor going up outside, way beyond last year's parking lot with Airstreams. Although we're happy to report Airstream will be back this year with the DWR model. Plus Dwell's evergreen corner on pre-fab and manufactured housing: re-defining the double-wide. Free valet bike parking. If reading Dwell makes you even a little moist, this is the place to be this weekend. Brannan at 8th Street.
And speaking of bikes: cyclists get discounted tickets for the AIA San Francisco Living: House Tours event, both days. For fans of current design, your great annual voyeur moment. Includes the Aidlin Darling Great Highway house currently on the cover of Dwell.
Tranny Shack: the three finalists designs are on display at Yerba Buena Center (across from SFMoMA on Third Street) through the weekend. Have a look at what San Francisco's transit center might look like in 2014. Just remember these things never look like their renderings when finally built.
