Call it Home

We skimmed right by this year's AIA San Francisco Design Awards, but better late than never. Among the standouts, David Baker & Partners' Curran House Apartments. Housing for low-income and formerly homeless families in the Tenderloin, and cited as "an exceptional place to live." And the Plaza Apartments in SoMa by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects & Paulett Taggart Architects, a collection of studio apartments for the previously chronically homeless, with medical and support services. Described by the jury as "an extraordinary project with a limited budget. This colorful and dignified building gives hope to residents and provides an anchor in a challenging neighborhood."

At the other end of the spectrum, Maison Clarte, another definition of home, an impeccable collection of open and enclosed structures by Fougeron Architecture (above, Maison Clarte floorplans after the jump.)
