In San Jose, 2009

On Thursday, the sound of ground breaking in San Jose, with the start of a twenty-three story luxury condominium, 360 South Market Street, a partnership of the San Jose Redevelopment Agency and Mesa Development. Design by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, the people who brought us the design for One Rincon Hill. It's another glassy tower with curves, but this time set behind a masonry scrim and over a street-scaled base that's theoretically pedestrian friendly. Should be ready for move-in 2009. What's really ground-breaking of course, is the development of high-density luxury housing in downtown San Jose, that sea of asphalt parking lots and egg-fryingly hot sidewalks. Interiors by Babey Moulton Jue & Booth, the San Francisco design firm. Think Four Seasons Hotel, Milan, or Nan McEvoy's olive ranch in Marin and you get the picture.
