Allied Box Factory

Open on Sunday: a loft in one of the great remaining timber buildings in San Francisco, The Allied Box Factory. Converted into an artists live-work structure a few years ago and a reminder of the gritty days when things actually got made here. In the Mission, at 2169 Folsom Street and abutting the new hooker cribs on Treat. Apparently one does not need to be a real "artist" to move in so don't bother printing out that bogus CV. Unit is over 2400 square feet (good for big, loud parties) and seems to have been divided into two units. Which would be non-conforming, so one is described as a "bedroom/studio with its own kitchen." Parking plus teensy terrace. $995K, on the market about a week. The unit next door went into escrow last week for about $600K, also about a week on the market, one-third the size but arguably in better condition ie. no walls painted blood red.
