Crafty Tenants Get Ellis Act Revenge

New, 4 comments

After a Mission resident died last week, his failed health blamed partially on the stress induced by fighting to save his family from an Ellis Act eviction after 40 years of residence, the landlord at 1286-1298 Treat Avenue finally felt the burn: While other residents continue to battle against eviction, three units have already been emptied by tenant buyouts. In a blazing show of tactical strategy, the man's neighbors held a vigil in his honor during the open house. When prospective buyers of the $500,000 units— a staggering three of them— arrived and encountered the memorial-cum-protest, at least one visitor refused to buy. Nice. [Beyond Chron]
