Floor Plan Porn: Super Freak in So Cal

New, 9 comments

[Floor plan courtesy Ron Crepeau via materialicio.us; please, please please take a peek at the larger, more legible version. Totally worth it.]

By far and away, this is the kinkiest floor plan porn we've yet seen— a total, unabashed Super Freak as the industry goes [cue Rick James]. So much so, that we're willing to make the pilgrimage to the Southern California desert to find it. (What a nice reprieve from the same 6 condo layouts recycled from warehouse to tower here in the city, anyway.) Ron Crepeau (a.k.a. "the Arktist") is building a 3500 sq. ft. home from 8 shipping containers, arranged around a 700 sq. ft. courtyard on a plot of land known as "Art Oasis." Crepeau is building by himself, for himself and thus the layout is fantastically unique. (For instance, note the room obtusely labeled "portal.") Now here's where it gets truly insane: while most architecture involving tends to lean toward the modern, Crepeau has gone completely suburban on us. Jump below to the (very boring, yet illustrative) video tour, narrated by Crepeau himself— please note the rocking chair, curtains, carved oak front door, and other knick-knacks and scarcities. In the most literal definition of the word: Awesome.
