Approved!: SF State Will Plan, Build

At least one San Francisco institution of higher learning has a viable (read: approved) development plan. The CA University Board of Trustees has approved SF State's Master Plan; the university can now move forward with further with land planning and funding efforts. In contrast to City College and University of the Arts' respective embroilments with the city over real estate, SF State occupies its own plot (though new building renovations will still require further approval). SF State was hoping to welcome one other building to the flock. They bid on the Former School of the Arts site at 700 Font Boulevard last year at a less-than-desirable price, hoping to revamp the space into the Clinical Science Building (bring on the cadavers!). The Riding Group— that Riding Group, one of the puppet masters behind the development of Mission Bay— usurped the school last week, however, buying the former school for $20.1M on a contingency basis; they can wiggle out of the deal within two years, though their $100,000 security deposit will have grown to a non-refundable $1.2M by then.
