Storefronting: Ferrari Wrecks Into Union Square

New, 3 comments

Storefronting is Curbed's regular look at the changing retail scene, with an emphasis on how it impacts neighborhoods. Opening a store? See a store that's opening? Drop a line.

For those of you who avoid Union Square to begin with ... What was once Cody's Books (on Stockton Street) will soon be transformed in to a Ferrari retail outlet designed by Bologna, Italy-based firm Studio Iosa Ghini Associati, with Brand + Allen Architects as the architects of record. This particular store concept was designed by Iosa Ghini in 2002, and we must admit: its florescent lights and big, bright polished surfaces overwhelm us in that Big Box retail kind of way. But hey, that was five years ago; steroids have improved markedly since then. There is hope.
