Mayor Wants To Fold Taxi Commission Into MTA

We know Mayor Gav's often cracked for being conservative (on the San Francisco scale), but maybe he's actually taking this "smaller government" thing seriously. Citing the passage of Prop. A earlier this month as his motivation, Mr. Newsom has introduced legislation to merge the taxi commission into the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). Newsom's crack team will take about four months to figure out permitting, regulations, and other economics. The real question: Would the introduction of the taxi system into the rest of the transportation pie (transit/parking/traffic) increase or decrease overall satisfaction? Tough call.
