[The Loneliest Real Estate of All: a very empty bank of port-o-pots line the Walgreens parking lot on 18th Street]
THE CASTRO—We have two words for the SFPD: Over. Time. Conjure a strong mental picture of Castro and 18th Streets on an average Saturday night. Have that image? Good. Now add another hundred or so people to the crowd. Costumes. Many, but not most have tarted themselves up for the evening: glitter, stilettos, wigs— embellish at will (this is a holiday, after all). Now, scatter about a group of bored looking cops to add a little je ne sais quois to the scene, and there you have it: San Francisco, Halloween, 2007. Downright placid.
