What's up here? 2870 Pacific used to be a house by William Wurster. San Francisco barely has a modernist heritage, and here people are demolishing what little there is. The variance application only mentions a third floor built within the existing footprint. Scant consolation that it's being done by Walker-Warner. Maybe they've saved the chimney, but this is still a $3.4M teardown. Modernist house are just old enough to fall apart and not valued enough to be restored. They rarely have the big kitchens and baths people expect and the details- especially Wurster's- are too subtle to bother with.
