According to one local, anonymous source, the armory site at 14th and Mission is currently "scary," "brick," and comes with your daily dose of "scary drug addicts." Neighbors are hoping for something a little more pleasant in the future development- "Somehow the castle-like armory building makes it seem like the Mission District residents are stockpiling arms in preparation for an ugly showdown with Hayes Valley." Such dreamers in the Mission.
The armory has basically been a development nightmare for the past twenty years, currently MBH Architects still lists it as one of it's projects, and the target build date is "In Design." We're guessing that means it won't be ready by next year's Blue Angels. If this design is even still in the works, it calls for the adaptive reuse of the current building, including keeping the original facade. The finished product will include office space, open space, and 173 residential units. Unfortunately for the current "tenants," there will be no skate park.
