Shopping with Theatres, not Shopping as Theatre

Phtot Credit: Thomas Hawk

A Mom & Pop (or should that be Mom & Mom?) retail island in a sea of suburban big-box, Berkeley has decided to revitalize its downtown with small businesses. In other words, everyone shops at Ikea and Target, except those stores are in Emeryville and Albany, so tax revenue has dropped dramatically. The plan is to develop a "Main Street" around the theatre and dance venues off Shattuck and University. Oh, and a new hotel.

Hopefully, someone will sell Chanel lipstick, because used books and nickel bags are just not cutting it anymore.
