Shift Design Studio will soon reinvent Gene Suttle Plaza, a dated public space at the corner Fillmore and O'Farrell in the Fillmore. This month, construction crews will tear out brick pavers and replace them with much-needed greenery and seating adorned with references to the neighborhood's rich history. The renovation is pushing forward thanks in part to San Francisco Beautiful, and is the first of a series of improvements projects intended to revitalize the Western Addition retail corridor. With America's best new restaurant just a block away from the plaza, and plans to get rid of the Geary underpass being drawn up, there's reason to believe that the next chapter in the neighborhood's history will be a bright one.
