A few weeks ago we published a map of San Francisco streetscape projects. Today, with the help of tipsters and new information provided by project sponsors, we have 25 San Francisco streetscape projects to feature on our map. Updated information can be found on the changes planned for Irving, and brand new additions include improvements to the Wiggle Corridor and 19th Avenue, among others. Now, without further ado, we present 25 major projects that will transform San Francisco's streets. That being said, since new projects surface every so often, you can still leave a comment or drop us a line if we've overlooked any improvements that you're particularly fond of.

Updating the San Francisco Streetscape Project Map
Castro Streetscape Improvement
Castro Street between Market and 19th will benefit from wider sidewalks, new lighting, more trees and even an "LGBT walk of fame." Look forward to seeing these improvements implemented over the next two years.
Taraval Streetscape Improvement
To remind users of Taraval's ocean-adjacent location, SFDPW plans to introduce palm trees and blue crosswalks between 48th and 46th avenues, as well as a beach-inspired art installation where the street meets the Great Highway.
Better Market Street
Better Market Street is a massive $350 Million+ undertaking that will radically alter the way Market Street looks and operates between the Embarcadero and Octavia Street.
McCoppin Hub Project
A currently underused dead end at McCoppin street will be transformed into a palm lined plaza. Meanwhile, the alleys in the area will get quality paving, and better landscaping.
Cesar Chavez Streetscape Project
Mission District residents are no doubt familiar with the sound of jackhammers and construction equipment tearing up Cesar Chavez. But fear not! When all is said and done, the street will be reduced from three lanes in each direction to two with bike lanes, and a landscaped median will be added to bring life to the grey expanse of concrete and asphalt.
Barlett Mercado Plaza
Motorists will have limited access to Barlett Street between 22nd and 21st to make way for a more flexible space that can better accomodate the farmer's market, dubbed the "Mercado Plaza."
Masonic Streetscape Improvement
The SFMTA will remove parking and add a landscaped median and cycletrack to what is currently a rather drab (not to mention dangerous) street for pedestrians and cyclists. The project has funding and will move forward in phases over the next two to three years.
Second Street Improvement Project
Bikers rejoice! Second Street is scheduled to get fully separated bike lanes among other safety improvements. New, more visible crosswalks and bus boarding islands are also part of plan, which should be implemented by 2016.
Balboa Streetscape Improvement
Come the end of the summer, Balboa Street will be torn up to make way for pedestrian bulbouts, new lighting, greenery and even a fancy neighborhood gateway sign.
Laurel Village Improvements
Little information has been released about the planned improvements for Laurel Village, but the project has funding from the 2011 Streets Bond. Expect the improvements to be completed by 2017.
Irving Streetscape Improvement
Irving between 19th and 26th avenues isn't exactly the most inviting street in the city, but hopefully that'll change with $3M in improvements planned for the sunset commercial corridor. Improvements will include repaved red sidewalks, bulbouts, and new lighting and landscaping.
Mansell Corridor Improvements
According to SFDPW's plans, Mansell will be transformed from an underused stretch of road to a walking and biking paradise with improved trails, lighting and signage. No word yet on when the project is set to be completed.
Point Lobos Streetscape Project
A new planted median will be added to Point Lobos Avenue between 42nd and 48th Avenues to liven up the drab stretch of road that connects Richmond residents to Lands End.
Haight Street Public Realm Plan
The city hopes to spruce up Haight Street with better lighting, more art and new landscaping in time for the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love in 2017. The exact details of the plan have not been finalized.
Folsom Streetscape Improvement
The unnecessarily wide stretch of Folsom between 19th and Cesar Chavez will be repaved and reduced from four lanes to two. New Bike lanes and corner bulbouts should help make the tree lined boulevard a more pleasant place to bike and walk.
Potrero Streetscape Improvement
By 2015, Potrero will get a major makeover that will improve pedestrian safety and beautify the stretch between 21st and 25th streets.
Broadway Chinatown Improvements
Broadway from the tunnel to Columbus Avenue isn't exactly the most inviting street for pedestrians, and the city knows it. What's the remedy? New trees, lighting, sidewalk extensions and benches.
Jefferson Streetscape improvement
Jefferson Street between Hyde and Jones has been radically transformed. Now the rest of the street is up for an extensive redesign at some point over the next decade. Expect similar changes to those implemented on the aforementioned blocks.
La Lengua Improvements
Traffic reconfigurations focused on cyclist and pedestrian safety, rain gardens, permeable paving in parking lanes and plazas, widened sidewalks and planted bulb-outs will be implemented as part of the SF PUC's recently announced plans for Valencia between Cesar Chavez and Mission.
Polk Streetscape Improvement
$3M will be spent on making Polk between McAllister and Union a safer, more attractive place to walk, bike, and do business. Though plans for fully separated bike lanes appear to have evaporated due to merchant concerns over parking availability, the project should still make the street a more inviting place for everyone who uses it. Improvements should be implemented over the next two to three years.
Broadway Phase III Improvements
Broadway between Kearny and Montgomery will get corner bulbouts, benches and red pedestrians-scale light posts like those found on the previously renovated sections of the street.
Sixth Street Improvement
The SFMTA wants to increase pedestrian safety on 6th between Market & Howard. The project that should help improve this notoriously dangerous stretch of road is still in the early design stage.
19th Avenue Improvements
19th Avenue's concrete median has been "greened" thanks to the introduction of succulents between Lincoln and Wawona. Future improvements will include pedestrian and bus bulbs with transit shelters and trees.
Wiggle Corridor Improvements
The SFMTA and SFPUC are collaborating on a project intended to prioritize pedestrians and cyclists along the wiggle corridor near Duboce Park. Improvements will include narrower streets, larger, greener sidewalks and better bike lanes. Certain portions of the project could be finished as early as 2016.
Oak and Fell Project
Protected bike lanes, enhanced crosswalks and sidewalk extensions at certain intersections will be implemented on Fell and Oak between Baker and Scott.
