Supervisor Eric Mar has submitted a proposal to increase restrictions on chain stores throughout San Francisco. Currently chains are defined as 11 or more stores nationwide, and banned from certain areas of the city while undergoing extensive review (like this one) in others. Mar's proposal would expand the definition to include stores located outside the U.S. as well "a business in which 50 percent or more is owned by a formula retail company." [SF Examiner/Curbed SF]
