Today the Supervisors will authorize the Port to accept $250K from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment Grant for the Pier 70 Union Iron Works Stabilization Project. The money will go the Union Iron Works/Bethlehem Steel Machine Shop, a rare surviving industrial building related to the shipbuilding history of San Francisco. Stabilization work includes shoring the roof and creating support systems for the upper levels - basically making sure it doesn't fall down until the Pier 70 redevelopment project can get some tenants in.
