Welcome to Racked SF, where local fashion blogger Kristen Philipkoski reports on retail comings and goings around San Francisco. Phiipkoski has been living and shopping in San Francisco for 20 years, and she blogs about it over at Stylenik.com. Seen a store open, close, or otherwise claim your attention? Hit the tipline, s'il vous plait.
If you're staying in the city this Memorial Day weekend, there will be no dearth of things to do, and that includes shopping! Sales, pop-ups, and fashion-centric parties are happening all over the city.
1) SOMA: Sixty-five years after Christian Dior's "New Look" rocked the wardrobes of women all over the world, San Francisco's The Factory and Code Salon are celebrating the iconic silhouette with "Dior: A Life in Pictures," basically a Dior-centric Pageant of the Masters. Models will imitate historic Dior photos, wearing avant-garde hair and makeup by Code Salon and Dior-esque outfits recreated by pattern- and sample-makers from The Factory. The models will also wear vintage jewelry curated by Sasha Maksutenko. Add food, drinks, music and the fact that entry is free, and it's got to be the best party happening tonight in San Francisco, possibly anywhere. It's all happening at? 370 4th Street (at Clara). After party at Supperclub SF from 9:30 to close! [The Factory on Facebook]
2) Pacific Heights: Napa's Cake Plate Boutique is launching a pop-up shop in Pacific Heights on Saturday. You can peruse the shop's selection of Lauren Moffatt, Tracey Reese, Bailey 44, Trina Turk and CP by Cake Plate without leaving the city's border until June 6th. They're moving into a temporary 700-square-foot retail space at 2411 California Street. [Cake Plate Boutique]
3) Union Square: Jimmy Choo opened a spanking new jewel-box-esque boutique in Union Square on Friday. The shop has some exclusive pieces like Astrakhan (known as Persian lamb in the olden days) and bright crocodile bags you won't find at any other Jimmy Choo store. [Stylenik]
4) Mobile Shop: Even shoe stores are going mobile these days. Footcandy Shoes of St. Helena is hitting the road in a 34-foot luxury coach vehicle prettied up and stocked with designer shoes from the likes of Victoria Beckham, Kate Spade, Manolo Blahnik, Valentino and more. The luxe bus will be traveling up and down the West Coast from Seattle to San Diego. But you don't have to wait for it to come to you, you can also rent it out for your next birthday party or shower. Footcandy also has stores in St. Helena, Sonoma and Walnut Creek. [Sacramento Bee via Refinery 29]
5) Mission/Bernal Heights: Secession Art & Design is offering 20 percent off its art collection today through the rest of the weekend, and the boutique-slash-art gallery is hosting a happy hour on Friday from 6:30 to 9:30. Their featured artists Nate 1 and Geoffrey Campen will be on hand, and this is your last chance to catch their art at Secession—the show closes Sunday.
Peep the current show art show here. You'll also find Maral Rapp's amazing metal mesh jewelry, Ava Love's nature-print shirts and dresses, poetry-inspired items from The Poetry Store, and lots more. [Secession Art & Design]
6) Fillmore: We told you about the new Steven Alan opening last week, but if you haven't had a chance to pop in yet, check out Refinery 29's pics of the pretty space by San Francisco photographer Molly DeCoudreaux. [Refinery 29]
