More good news for the Mexican Museum this week- a grant for $800,000 for planning and design fees from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment. People have been trying to get this thing of the ground since the mid-'90s, including a proposed design by Legorreta+Legorreta a few years back. The current plan? Museum spaces will be slotted into the condo tower designed by Enrique Norten/TEN Arquitectos for Millennium Partners at Mission & Third Streets, to join the other museums around Yuerba Buena: SFMOMA, Jewish Contemporary, African Diaspora. SF Redevelopment gave the Mexican Museum $10.5M earlier this year towards construction costs for an institution which apparently has a stellar collection that no one ever gets to see. It's possible this will all happen by sometime in 2016, Millennium-willing.
