Back in February, Curbed reported that the cash-strapped Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center was fixin' to open up a restaurant on the first or the fourth floor, or both. Yesterday the Planning Commission approved a one-building-only special use district that will allow the center to put a full-service restaurant and bar on its top floor so that hopefully it can make some much needed cash.
Having a tenant operate the restaurant and bar could possibly bring the center as much as $100,000 in revenue within the first year. Income from a restaurant "would move toward the building becoming more self-sufficient," Rebecca Rolfe, the center's executive director told the commission.
