No Justice in the 'Loin

The Supes have sent Gavin's proposal for a new courthouse in the Tenderloin back to the drawing board. The Supes considered Gav's $500,000 spending request for a new courthouse (dubbed the Community Justice Center ) ostentatious given the city's overall budget crisis. If built, the center will house a regular courtroom and social services under one roof to serve Gavin's alleged crackdown on crime in the Tenderloin; petty perps would have the choice of signing up for services (drug and alcohol rehab, what have you) or facing Judge Judy. Irony abounds , given the "down with crime!" chant we've heard from city hall since the area has undergone new development efforts. No comment from Minty Fresh. [Examiner]
