Noe Next Up for Free WiFi
Monday, May 12, 2008, by Sarah Hromack

The 'net is free in Noe Valley— Following efforts in the Haight and the Mission, Mountain View-based Meraki, Inc. has spread its "free the net" campaign to the nabe, attempting to accomplish what Google and Earthlink haven't quite been able to: Free Wifi for all. Rather than partnering with the city, Meraki is working on a community-based solution; around 350 residents have offered to host radio repeaters on their rooftops, which create a web of high-speed, broadband coverage in the area. iPhone users rejoice! (Until you notice how damn slow the network can be, that is. But as is life.) [Noe Valley Voice]
